Getting Afloat

Bareboat (B)
The nominated skipper must be experienced in all aspects of boat handling, navigation and have knowledge of the collision regulations. The skipper takes full liability for the safety of the crew and the vessel.  The itinerary and food provisions will be your responsibility although some companies do offer this service. An RYA Day Skipper qualification or equivalent together with a VHF radio licence may be required and it is advisable to check with individual companies for their specific stipulations. Crewed (CW)
A vessel with a qualified skipper and qualified crew are hired to take charge and direct responsibility. No previous experience is necessary although there is an opportunity to assist with duties if desired. The vessel will be provisioned for you and itinerary can be flexible.
 
Skippered (SK)
A qualified skipper is hired together with the vessel and they are responsible for both your safety and the safety of the yacht. One crewmember must have previous knowledge, as assistance with certain boat handling duties may be required. Yourselves or the skipper can choose the itinerary; provisions can either be provided by the company or supplied by yourselves.
 
Flotilla (F)
A group of vessels under the supervision of a lead boat. Your individual yacht will accommodate your party within the sociable gathering. Itinerary is set and morning briefings are given to advise of day’s destination together with local hazards to avoid on route. Boat knowledge is essential for the nominated skipper and ideally the crew. Certification requirements must be obtained from the individual companies.
 
Beach Club (BC)
Waterside dry land accommodation.  Blends of activities both waterborne and on land are available with participation levels of your choice.
 
Activities (A)
A vast range of things to do from snorkelling, diving, windsurfing, waterskiing, kayaking, canoeing & dinghy sailing to mention just a few. Individual companies provide a full list of what is offered.
