Travel Information

PACKING YOUR BAGS
Your baggage content will depend on the type of Charter or Holiday you are taking.  Your chosen MLA Member company can provide exact details of essentials needed.  It is highly recommended to travel light using soft foldable bags, as storage on board can be rather limited.  Do take in consideration the climate of your destination and pack accordingly.  Don’t forget your hat, sun cream and sunglasses – even if the sun is not shinning the rays can get you!

LEGAL DOCUMENTS
The essentials, depending on your chosen destination, could be passport, visa, medical insurance and cancellation insurance. Did you know that you can claim back most of your treatment and medication costs if you fall ill or have an accident in Europe? That's as long as you carry a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).  From 1 January 2006 the E111 form has been replaced by the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) so if you are a UK resident, you can apply for an EHIC click here.  The EHIC entitles the holder to free or reduced cost, state-provided medical treatment if you fall ill or have an accident while visiting any country in the European Economic Area (EEA). Please note that an EHIC is not a substitute for comprehensive travel insurance.  Member companies may be able to assist you with Insurance Broker’s contact details.

Your chosen Charter or Holiday may require specific legal documents e.g. RYA qualifications (check out our Training Section for more info Andy direct link here please) and individual MLA Members will advise you on exact requirements.

TALKING MONEY
Don’t forget your spending money! Local currency is a must and some destinations will require a larger amount than others, as they do not accept flexible friends in more remote locations! Further information will be sent to you by your chosen MLA Member regarding your destination.

WHEN YOU GET THERE
You will be given a briefing to familiarise yourself with your selected vessel/location regarding safety & emergency procedures. Information about your destination will be supplied with regards to local hazards as well as places of interest, etc. Ship papers will be readily available for all chartered vessels together with contingency plans to cover all events. A representative of your chosen MLA Member company will be fully contactable for the duration of your Charter/Holiday. Victualling or provisioning your vessel (food & drink supplies) may be included or pre-arranged with your booking.
