ROCKLEY WATERSPORTS HELPS TO INSPIRE CHILDREN’S CREATIVITY AT THE SOUTHAMPTON BOAT SHOW!

Sailing specialist, Rockley Watersports will once again be exhibiting at the Southampton Boat Show, but this year they hope to inspire even more families to visit the event by joining sailing boat designer and manufacturer, Topper Sailboats International, in a national children’s competition.

The ‘Design a Sail’ competition is hoped to inspire children’s imagination and creativity and help to promote watersports. Children are asked to create a sail design, which will come to life at the 2009 London International Boat Show when the winning design is displayed on a Topper sailboat. The winner will also receive a five day RYA dinghy sailing course at Rockley Watersports’ Dorset sailing centre.

Rockley Watersports' managing director, Peter Gordon said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed the last few years at the Southampton Boat Show, there is always such enthusiasm and excitement towards watersports, which I am sure will be even greater this year with Britain’s triumphant wins in the watersports events at the Beijing Olympics.

“When we were asked to get involved in the Design a Sail competition we were only too happy to provide the top prize for the winning design. It is important to promote watersports to families and we feel that the competition, along with free Boat Show tickets to all children is helping to achieve that!”

Children can pick up their Design a Sail colouring sheet from Rockley Watersports stand A37 or Topper on E41A at the Southampton Boat Show from 12-21 September 2008 or log onto www.londonboatshow.com for further information.

ROCKLEY WATERSPORTS GETS BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS ON THE WATER!

Sailing specialist, Rockley Watersports is helping breast cancer survivors from Dorset to get active on the water through the sport of dragon boat racing. The group of 20 women have started the Pink Champagne Dragon Boat Team and will practice regularly at Rockley Watersports’ Poole Park centre.

Rockley Watersports purchased two 40 ft. dragon boats last year, which gives up to 40 paddlers the chance to get on the water and work together as a team. The popularity of the dragon boats are going from strength to strength and this year Rockley Watersports is welcoming everyone from corporate teams to groups of friends who have booked regular practice sessions at Poole Park.

Mary Milne from Pink Champagne said: “The Pink Champagne Dragon Boat Team’s mission is to encourage women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer to lead full and active lives. “The women in the group range in age, from early thirties to late seventies, and in fitness from unfit to very fit. A fitness advisor from the Littledown Sports Centre delivers a specific fitness programme to ensure everyone is fit before they go onto the boat. Through this group, we can demonstrate to other cancer survivors, the benefits of an active lifestyle. At the same time, we hope to raise awareness of breast cancer, provide fellowship to team members, celebrate our lives and most of all, have fun.”

Peter Gordon, Rockley Watersports’ managing director said: “When we were approached by the Pink Champagne Team we were really pleased to help the group with an activity that is not only great fun but is a fantastic team sport. “With just three other dragon boat teams made up of breast cancer survivors in the UK, Pink Champagne is the only team in the south of England, and it is great that Rockley Watersports can provide the team with dragon boat tuition in such a beautiful location.”

Pink Champagne Dragon Boat Team is currently looking for sponsorship from local businesses so they can continue to practice the sport. If you would like to support Pink Champagne please contact Pamela Lance on 07833775559 www.pinkchampagne.org.uk.

SUNSEEKER SUCCESS AT MOTOREXPO

Sunseeker Charters and Sunseeker London enjoyed resounding success at the 2008 Motorexpo event in Canary Wharf, which was held last week. Exhibiting the Portofino 47 in Canada Square as well as a fleet of six vessels on the water in South Quay, the luxury motoryacht brand introduced a new dimension to this popular annual event in the heart of London. The Sunseeker displays attracted not only visitors to the Motorexpo event, but also locally based business people.
“We have had an amazing response from visitors to our stands,” said David Ward, director of Sunseeker Charters. “Interest in charters as well as sales has been high. And while we have achieved our target of raising Sunseeker’s profile in this prominent district, we are delighted to have exceeded our expectations and achieved several charter bookings as a direct result of this event. Plans are now already under way for next year’s event.”

For the Motorexpo event in 2009 Sunseeker looks to further improve and expand its exhibit. Along with larger luxurious Sunseeker motoryachts – of up to 30 metres in length – on show, Sunseeker are now in discussion with British Waterways, Motorexpo and Canary Wharf Estates to move their on-the-water display into the more central location of the Middle Dock.
“Sunseeker is synonymous with ‘wowing’ people,” said David Lewis, director of Sunseeker London. “The Sunseeker Portofino 47 positioned in Canada Square this year certainly turned heads. However, we are really looking forward to stepping up a gear in 2009 to put on an even more spectacular show for people to enjoy.”

This was the first time that a motoryacht company has exhibited at the Motorexpo, which is billed as the motor industry’s largest, free-to-visit event.
